Description
Parenting Plus: From Survival to Connection
A Whole Family Guide to PDA and Autism
About the series:
Parenting Plus: From Survival to Connection is a compassionate webinar series from bestselling author Missing The Mark, Eliza Fricker exploring PDA and autism through the lens of nervous systems, emotional safety, relationships, and family wellbeing.
Future topics include:
Reducing the pressure and spotting hidden demands, communication for safety, overwhelm and recovery, relationships and the wide family, school impact and burnout, parenting with trust.
Because parenting neurodivergent children often asks more of families this series aims to support not just the child, but the whole family. This is not a ‘how to’ rather a supportive guide to with the tools you already have.
Session 2 When Everything Becomes a Demand, Reducing Pressure Without Giving Up Completely.
Getting dressed.
Brushing teeth.
Leaving the house.
Turning off a screen.
Going to bed.
Sometimes it can feel as though absolutely everything has become a demand.
Parents and carers can find themselves walking on eggshells, carefully choosing every word, avoiding possible triggers and wondering how family life can possibly work when everyday tasks create so much distress.
In this second session of Parenting Plus: From Survival to Connection, we will explore what happens when demands seem to be everywhere and how reducing pressure does not have to mean giving up on family life.
Together, we’ll look at the ways demands can build throughout the day, how language, urgency and expectation can unintentionally increase pressure, and why offering choices does not always feel like a choice to a demand-avoidant nervous system.
We will explore low-demand approaches, collaboration and genuine autonomy through a realistic whole-family lens.
This is not a session about finding the perfect script or learning another parenting technique to get your child to comply.
It is about becoming curious about pressure and finding gentler, more flexible ways through everyday family life.
